Two Central Kentucky Teams Get Special Visit

 

In return for their outstanding support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Soccer Kicks for Cancer Program, the Mercer County Youth Soccer Black Bats and the Central Kentucky Soccer Club 95 had the to learn from one of the brightest new prospects in the MLS, Kentucky’s own John Michael Hayden.

 

Houston DynamoDuring the hour long visit, John Michael led each team through a skills demonstration, a 4v4 game, and it all ended with a question and answer period.  To garner the visit by the Houston Dynamo’s star, these two teams rose over $16,000 to help in the fight against blood cancer. 

 

The two teams were the highest fund raiser for the current year in the nation, Great job for a job well done.  
 
 

 

Soccer Kicks for Cancer is a soccer development, community outreach and fundraising program developed by US Youth Soccer and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Soccer players raise funds for research and patient programs by getting donations for the number of "touches" they make on the soccer ball at home over a ten day period.  The goal is for every participating player to touch the ball 2000 times over a specific 10 day period.  Donations are pre-paid gifts rather than pledges and made in advance or during the program. 

All funds support research and patient services programs of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Todd Smith Leukemia Fund for soccer scholarships.  A Todd Smith Scholarship Grant is made to the participating club in the amount of 10% of gross revenue generated by the program.  These funds are used to allow deserving youngsters to participate in local soccer programs.

 

Teams that participate in soccer kicks for cancer need to recognize that blood cancers are the number one cause of cancer death among children and young adults under the age of 20, therefore Soccer Kicks for Cancer is about kids helping other kids.
