Kentucky Youth Soccer John and Sue Gompper Scholarship Winners
LEXINGTON, KY (July 8, 2016) – After weeks of review and deliberation, Kentucky Youth Soccer has announced the winners of the 2016 John and Sue Gompper Founders Scholarship. In total Kentucky Youth Soccer will award a sum of $8,000 to help provide financial support to young student athletes faced with rising college costs.
Andrew Angel – Transylvania University
Andrew Hagan – Bellarmine University
Olivia Nelson – University of Cincinnati
Erin Smekrud – University of South Carolina
Zach Thomas – Ohio State University
Logan Thrasher – University of Kentucky
Kathryn Williams - Western Kentucky University
Rachel Yeager – University of Dayton
"After reviewing each application in depth, we were amazed to learn more about the young people in our organization and how they are making a positive impact both on and off the field in their communities," stated Regina Martin, Kentucky Youth Soccer’s President. "We believe that the lessons players learn in the youth soccer system – teamwork, dedication, discipline, passion, and a sense of pride – help to build a strong foundation for all of our kids regardless if they continue playing soccer at the next level or not.
