Kentucky Youth Soccer John and Sue Gompper Scholarship Winners
LEXINGTON, KY (July 8, 2016) – After weeks of review and deliberation, Kentucky Youth Soccer has announced the winners of the 2016 John and Sue Gompper Founders Scholarship. In total Kentucky Youth Soccer will award a sum of $8,000 to help provide financial support to young student athletes faced with rising college costs.
2016 Recipients:
Andrew Angel – Transylvania University
Andrew Hagan – Bellarmine University
Olivia Nelson – University of Cincinnati
Erin Smekrud – University of South Carolina
Zach Thomas – Ohio State University
Logan Thrasher – University of Kentucky
Kathryn Williams - Western Kentucky University
Rachel Yeager – University of Dayton
"After reviewing each application in depth, we were amazed to learn more about the young people in our organization and how they are making a positive impact both on and off the field in their communities," stated Regina Martin, Kentucky Youth Soccer’s President. "We believe that the lessons players learn in the youth soccer system – teamwork, dedication, discipline, passion, and a sense of pride – help to build a strong foundation for all of our kids regardless if they continue playing soccer at the next level or not. We congratulate all of our Scholarship winners, and the entire class of 2016 for their achievements and know that great things are headed their way."
